Leadership Workshops

It is with great excitement that the Center for ilsr sponsors a new series of FREE workshops for high school girls. The most exciting aspect of these workshops is that we will bring them to YOU!

In this, our first year facilitating the Leadership Workshops in the schools, we have traveled from rural Maine to New York City, bringing a message of inclusiveness and empowerment. The response has been wonderful.

"The feedback [from the Leadership Workshop] resounded with enthusiasm. Our students commented that ‘I loved the group interactions,’ and ‘I thought it was helpful to talk about issues we could actually solve in our school.’ Many thanks for Pine Manor College’s support of this fine program. "
Director of
Student Activities, Connecticut

"The feedback I am receiving from the students is very positive. The girls and I would like to thank you very much for coming to our school and doing this interesting workshop. It was a great opportunity for them to look at events from a more empowered perspective."

These FREE leadership workshops, held at your school or organization, provide an intensive leadership program for 15-20 girls who are sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school. Facilitated by the Center staff and a Pine Manor College student, workshop activities focus on helping the participants create positive change in their school, doing so in a way that includes all voices—especially those that might have been neglected in the past.

These workshops are offered in addition to our longer, more in-depth programs, the Weekend Leadership Conferences and the Summer Summit on Leadership. Each girl who participates in one of the Leadership Workshops will be invited to attend one of these programs during the following summer. For more information on those programs, please visit: Weekend Leadership Conferences or Summer Summit on Leadership.

There are several reasons we offer these workshops in the schools and at no cost:

  1. More Will Benefit: We recognize that high school students have increasing demands on their time—jobs, family obligations, sports, college preparatory work, community service, etc. By bringing the leadership programs to them, more girls will be able to benefit from this opportunity.
  2. Working as a Team: We want to be able to work with a larger number of girls in each school. During our longer leadership programs, one girl usually acts as a representative from her school and develops a plan to take back to her community. Following the new workshops, however, the participants will be able to work together as a team to create positive change in their school.
  3. Opportunity for All: We realize the cost of a full weekend-long or week-long program can be prohibitive to many students. We do have financial assistance for our longer programs, but through the workshops, an even greater number of girls will have the opportunity to experience our leadership programs—at NO COST to them.
Request a Leadership Workshop*
Guidance Counselors, or other high school professionals, submit a Workshop Request Form.

What we provide for a Leadership Workshop:

  • A Two-and-a-half-hour Workshop that will help girls in their sophomore, junior and senior years build leadership skills necessary for working across differences, creating positive change, building self-esteem and communicating effectively.
  • Personal Interaction with and follow-up from staff in the Center for Inclusive Leadership and Social Responsibility at Pine Manor College and a Pine Manor College student, who will co-facilitate the workshop.
  • Helpful Materials your students will use as they move forward to implement a plan to create positive change in their school.

What we ask you to provide for a Leadership Workshop:

  • The commitment of 15-20 girls in their sophomore, junior or senior years for participation and engagement in the workshop.
  • A space that is conducive to conversation, working groups and presentation, preferably with a chalk or white board.
