Junior Eunice Friere (Roxbury,MA) finsihed with a time of 27:00.00 to lead Pine Manor as the Gators dropped the team decision to Simmons by a score of 15-40.

Simmons College freshman Tiffany Pierce finsihed with the top time of 21:30 to help lead the Sharks to an overall team victory.

Last week, Mendes led the Gators to two victories during the Pine Manor Invitational on Thusday October 6, 2011. Mendes finished in first plaece with an overall time of 22:13.00, helping the Gators to secure an overall team victory in the meet with a low score of 41 points.  

Pine Manor also finsihed first in a dual meet versus Mount Ida College on the same day, as the two GNAC opponents were also racing head-to-head as part of the PMC Invitational. Mendes' first palce time also helped the Gators to top the Mustangs 26-29.

The Gators finished with a team score of 41 points, placing four runners in the top 10 of the field that also included Mount Ida, Newbury, Daniel Webster, and Wheelock. Mount Ida finished with an overall score of 48 points, led by a second place finish from Jeileen Rivera. They were followed by Newbury with 52 points and Daniel Webster with 69 points. Wheelock College did not register a team score, as the Wildcats only finished four runners. However, Wheelock’s Danielle Gaudette was the fourth overall finisher in the field.

Thursday’s meet also served as a Dual Meet between Pine Manor and Mount Ida with the Gators capturing a 26-29 victory over the Mustangs.

Four teams participated in the women’s division including Mount Ida College, Newbury College, Curry College, and Pine Manor. However, Pine Manor was the only team to not finish or place due to a lack of five runners in the race. PMC freshmen Addie Bryant (Bow, NH) was the second finisher for the Gators with a time of 27:42:00.

Newbury College junior Solange Thomas (Webster, MA) captured a first place finish in the women’s 5K division with a time of 22:26. In team scores, Curry College was the top team finisher with 29 points in the women’s division while the Mustangs took second place with 44 points. Newbury captured third place with 55 points.

The Gators will now look to next week and the Rivier College Invitational in Nashua, NH on Friday, September 23, 2011.

Freshman Natasha Guadalupe placed 76th at an even 27:00, good for an average mile of 8:42. Fellow freshman Kathy Tavarez followed in 86th place, finishing at 31:10.

Pine Manor runs again next Saturday at noon at the 38th Annual Shriners Invitational hosted by UMass-Dartmouth.

Pine Manor opens its fall seasons on Wednesday, as soccer travels to Mitchell at 4 p.m. and volleyball plays host to Newbury ay 7 p.m. Tennis opens on Thursday at Newbury at 3:30 p.m., and cross country runs at the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday morning at 11.

"Courtney ran a strong race on a challenging course," said Gators coach Bill Stargard.

Emerson's Caprice Capucci led all runners, capturing both GNAC Runner of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, pacing the field with a time of 20:52, edging teammate Cat Viglienzoni at 20:53. The Lions crossed three of the first five runners, taking the women's title with 48 points.

The senior's time placed her 91 out of over 135 runners on the Golden Bears campus Saturday.

"Courtney ran a solid race at the WNEC Invitational, her first race since October 3," said Gators coach Bill Stargard.

Margaret Klein, of Castleton State, paced the field with a time of 19:29. Salve Regina freshman Paige Pallotto followed, at 19:33.  

Stargard's Gators now prepare for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship two weeks from today, on October 31 at Rivier College.  

As a team, the Gators did not place, but coach Bill Stargard was pleased with his senior's results.

"Courtney ran a very strong race in less than perfect conditions," Stargard said.  "She and I were both very happy with her strong performance."

Stargard's Gators are in action again next Saturday, running at St. Joseph's College in Standish, ME at 11 a.m.

The senior finished 272nd, with an average mile of 8:21. Junior Jataiya Alexander followed in 295th place, at 31:35. Pine Manor's Unique Burton was right behind, in 297th place with a time of 34:03.

The Gators have next weekend off before returning to action on October 3.

While the team did not place in the nine-team field, Michelle Myers finished 22nd at 22:55 and Courtney Wallace (right) finished 77th at 26:39. Salve Regina's Paige Pallatto paced the field at 19:50.

The Gators are in action next on Saturday at 11:15 at UMass-Dartmouth.

"It's a big accomplishment to be Rookie of the Year," said Segal-Bator, who credited her teammates for their inspiration, as well as the seventh-place finish. "I'd really like to thank my teammates because they're amazing and they keep my hopes and pride alive on the course, no matter the situation."

Sophomore Kelly Pirzl (Dalton, MA/Wachonah) placed among Gators at 25:54, good for 61st overall. Closely behind were Patty Pabon (Bronx, NY/Townsend Harris) at 26:13 and Courtney Wallace (Steep Falls, ME/Bonny Eagle) at 26:22, finishing 68th and 69th respectively.

Segal-Bator (Bow, NH/Bow) becomes the first Pine Manor runner to earn either All-GNAC or Rookie of the Year distinction. The four-time Rookie of the Week has finished no worse than sixth in any of her six meets.

Said coach Bill Stargard, "This was a great team effort. I'm extremely happy with moving up in the GNAC this year." With an average finish of 25:28:80 on Saturday, his Gators moved up four spots after finishing 11th a year ago.

"I'm very happy with Lindsey's third-place finish and for her All-Conference and Rookie of the Year recognition," Stargard said. "I'm very proud of all five runners."

The host Monks won today's meet with an average time of 21:51, placing four runners in the Top 10. Emmanuel College's Cat Lariviere paced the women's field at 19:46.

Segal-Bator now moves on to the Division III New England Regional Meet on Saturday, November 15 at Williams College in Williamstown, MA.

Segal-Bator placed second at Western New England College at 19:59 for the 5k course, leading Pine Manor to 12th place in a field of 20.  This week marks the fourth consecutive race in which the freshman has finished in the Top 6 and the fourth straight Rookie of the Week award for Segal-Bator.

Active in clubs and organizations throughout campus, Segal-Bator was also named president of the Pine Manor Class of 2012 this week.

In the first four meets to start her collegiate career, Segal-Bator has now placed no lower than sixth. She won the St. Joseph (CT) Invitational on October 4.

With a time of 20:27:45, good for 31 seconds off the lead on the 5k course, Segal-Bator led the Gators to a tenth-place finish out of 14 teams.

The conference honor comes on the heels of her course-record finish of 21:35 at St. Joseph (CT) two weeks ago (photo above) and is her third Rookie of the Week in as many weeks. She received the honor following her first collegiate meet at Elms College, where she finished fourth out of over 80 runners at 20:59.

In her second collegiate meet ever, Segal-Bator finished with at time of 21:35, a St. Joseph (CT) College 5k course record that outpaced her closest competitor by 55 seconds.

This marks her second such GNAC honor in as many weeks. Segal-Bator was named Rookie of the Week for the week of September 29 after taking fourth place at the Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College with a time of 20:59.

Segal-Bator’s Gators are in action this Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational at 11 a.m. at Colt State Park.

Pine Manor (49 points) ran to its highest finish of 2008, taking second behind the host Blue Jays (33 points). Sophomore Kelly Pirzl (Dalton, MA/Wachona) and senior Patty Pabon (Bronx, NY/ Townsend Harris) placed eighth and ninth, respectively, at 26:30 and 26:36.

The reigning GNAC Cross Country Rookie of the Week, Segal-Bator finished (right) nearly a minute ahead of the second place finisher. Pine Manor travels to Roger Williams University next Saturday for an 11:00 a.m. meet.
