BUILD: Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity

The Biology Department at Pine Manor College submitted a grant proposal to the NIH under the BUILD initiative. We are awaiting review of our proposal and hope to launch this site in the near future.

Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD), is an initiative by the National Institute of Health (NIH) aimed to enhance diversity in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences research workforce.

The NIH's Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) states:

"...BUILD awards are intended to support the design and implementation of innovative programs, strategies and approaches to transform undergraduate research training and mentorship."

The BUILD program at Pine Manor aims to stimulate undergraduate interest in biomedical research and sustain their capacity to succeed in advanced training.

The program will leverage Pine Manor's existing relationship with the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences of Tufts University School of Medicine and develop new partnerships with East Boston High School and Science Club for Girls. This site is constructed to engage all participants both within the Pine Manor BUILD community and beyond: students, parents, guardians, faculty and staff, observers, friends and colleagues. Its purpose is to enrich the experiences and solidify and improve our program through a sharing and discussion of ideas and experiences. Welcome!

Creating Conversations about BUILD

The Pine Manor College BUILD program will encourage interactive conversations, comments and thoughts from inside and outside the BUILD community.

We are testing four blogs for our BUILD initiatives:

1. Science Club for Girls Mentoring Program
2. East Boston High School Partnership
3. Student Research Training
4. The Pine Manor BUILD Curriculum
