Child Study Center

Pine Manor’s Ann Pappajohn Vassilliou Child Study Center is the college's laboratory preschool. It is a developmentally appropriate, inclusive, "model" preschool program which enrolls 39 children (2.9 through 5yrs.) in early education programs.

The Child Study Center serves the Pine Manor College students by providing an enriching opportunity to learn first-hand about child growth and development, curriculum planning, and other related topics. Students spend pre-practicum, practicum, and internship hours working under the supervision of the CSC's mentor teaching staff, all of whom hold Bachelors or Masters degrees. Two of the staff are also members of the Pine Manor teaching faculty. The mentor teachers provide professional role models for the students and give individual support to each Pine Manor student through weekly supervision meetings. Students are able to observe and then increasingly experience the role of professional early educators as they meet the developmental needs of children, plan curriculum, and support families through parent work. As students gain knowledge and skills for professional work in early education, they are increasingly prepared to make informed decisions about their educational and career choices.

The Child Study Center ‘s vibrant atmosphere and positive energy are often factors that prospective students who visit the campus comment on. Past Pine Manor College students frequently reflect on the learning they achieved while spending time at the Child Study Center and the role that this "hands-on" experience played in their future career decisions.
