The major in Psychology offers students the opportunity to
grow in self-understanding and in the understanding of others.
Psychology majors take a core of courses that provide basic
knowledge of psychological theories, methods, and research data
and introduce research techniques. Students then select a concentration
in Child Development, Human Services for Children, Adolecents,
or Adults, or Industrial/ Organizational Psychology. The major
prepares students for careers in human services, research, and
education and provides background for further training in medical
or health-related fields. A minor in counseling is available
for non-Psychology majors interested in clinical work and Psychology
majors not concentrating in human services. A minor in child
care is also available for non-Psychology majors. Psychology
majors interested in child care should take the additional courses
listed under the Child Development Concentration. As evidence
of competence in the field of Psychology, students will complete
a four-component assessment, which includes the assembly of
a portfolio of her work. (See B.A. Coordinator for details.)
