CHESTNUT HILL, MA -- Albertus Magnus sophomore Sam Corso (Derby,CT/Derby) came off the bench to score two goals and lead the visiting Falcons of Albertus Magnus College to a 5-1 victory over host Pine Manor College in Great Northeast Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, MA.
The Falcons got things started in the 17th minute when sophomore Amanda Roke (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) took a pass from classmate Shannon Skidmore (Terryville,CT/Terryville) that allowed her to break in on goal and put Albertus ahead, 1-0. Two minutes later, Shannon Skidmore would help find the net again, this time scoring on an assist from her sister Meaghan to make it 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
In the 37th minute, Pine Manor would counter to make the score 2-1 when senior midfielder Cristina Santos (Pawtucket, RI/St. Raphael Academy) scored following a free kick from junior Margaret Roberts (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff).However, that is as close as Pine Manor would get for the remainder of the match.
Six minutes later, Sam Corso (Derby,CT/Derby) scored the first of her two goals to make it 3-1 going into halftime.In the second half, Corso picked up where she left off and scoring her second goal in the 65th minute.
In the 85th minute, senior midfielder Brittany Geremia(Northford, CT/North Branford) wrapped up the scoring for the day to make it a 5-1 victory for the Falcons.
Pine Manor received outstanding play from sophomore goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) who made 20 saves in net against the Falcons. Pine Manor was outshot 36-3 by Albertus in the match.
The Falcons improve to (3-1, 1-0 GNAC), while the Gators drop to (0-2, 0-1 GNAC). The Gators return to action Monday, September 12 in non-conference play when they host Newbury College at 4:00 p.m. at Hedley Field.
