Information on PMC Alumnae and Tsunami Disaster

Dear PMC Community:

As we try to cope with the terrible loss of life in southern Asia, our thoughts are with those who have lost family and friends and those who are struggling to cope with the devastation that remains from the tsunami. Many of you might be trying to locate Pine Manor friends, you might have information about your own circumstances to convey or you might want to share your thoughts about engaging in actions to help. For all these reasons and because the Pine Manor connection among us is especially important during times of crisis, we thought it would be helpful to create a network for communicating.

The purpose of the below posting is to help the facilitation of communication among alumnae during this time. Please let us know any other ways we might help.

    "Dear President Nemerowicz,
Thank you for your message of concern and support. I have thankfully not lost anyone in the Tsunami disaster. We are, nonetheless united in mourning through this human tragedy as the death toll is unfathomable. So many have lost loved ones, and there are countless more clinging to what ever means they have available for survival, both physically and emotionally. I, like many more, will send my contributions to charitable aid agencies helping disaster victims.

A friend who is visiting from Sweden with her son has unfortunately lost a close friend and neighbor. He is the father of two young children. His wife and children are now back home striving for normalcy as they come to terms with what has happened to them. The wife is still hoping that her husband will find his way back to them! My friend leaves today. She is a teacher, and she fears she may not see the same faces at school this year.

I read today in the New York Times that "Muslims, Sinhalese, Tamils are working together everywhere with this problem." Everyone is hoping that the future will also be like that. When my father was a young man he lived in Sri Lanka for quite some time. He made life-long friends there, and found the people of Sri Lanka to be among the kindest he knew.

Here's to more peace and harmony everywhere for the new year and those to come!
May 2005 be extra good to you."

I live in Lima, Peru, and we have had  many disasters in the past also. It is so nice to know that Pine Manor is always aware. I work in the Marketing area of Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola."
