PAXTON, Mass. -- Anna Maria College freshman Samantha Gabriella (Malden, MA) recorded a hat-trick and six different Anna Maria players scored at least one goal to lead the AMCATS to a 9-1 victory over Pine Manor on Wednesday evening at AMCAT Field.
Gabriella scored all three of her goals before the end of the first half. The freshman put the AMCATS on the board first, scoring on a feed from Tabitha Ruggeri (Palmer, MA) in the 23rd minute. Ruggeri would then add the next two for Anna Maria scoring in the 28th and 35th minute of the first. Just five minutes later, sophomore Cristina Turley (Waterford, CT) would score a goal of her own to make the score 4-0 in favor of Anna Maria.
Gabriella would score the next two goals for the AMCATS, both on assists from Ruggeri, to help Anna Maria head to the break with a commanding 6-0 advantage.
The Gators broke the shutout in the 57th minute when junior Christina Warnke (Livermore, CA) pushed an unassisted goal pass the outstretched hands of AMCAT net minder Sarah Benvenuti (Southbridge, MA) to cut the lead to 6-1.
Anna Maria would add three more goals in the second half. Neugarten (Natick, MA) would score her first goal of the season in the 60th minute off a Ryan pass and then return the favor in the 88th minute when she would feed Ryan for her first collegiate goal. Ryan’s goal came after Gator goaltender Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, IL) had made an incredible penalty kick save off the foot of senior Joanne Riches (Paxton, MA). Kopystynsky finished the game with 15 saves for Pine Manor.
The Gators will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Nashua, NH to take on Rivier University.
