MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Pine Manor College Women's Basketball dropped a 92-74 decision to Spelman College in the first round of the 2013 Great South Athletic Conference Tournament (GSAC) on Friday afternoon at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL. With the loss the Gators close out the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 9-14.
Led by 27 points from Andrea Kinzer, Spelman established a 12 point halftime advantage at 46-34. The Jaguars then grew the lead to as many as 26 points midway through the second half before eventually taking the 92-74 final. With the win, Spelman advance to the semifinals. They will face top-seed and host Huntingdon College tomorrow afternoon.
The Gators had no answer for the hot-shooting of Spelman. Led by Kinzer, the Jaguars shot a blistering 47.1% from the field in the contest, while also establishing a 54-44 rebounding advantage. Christiauna Draper and Tiana Welch also finished in double-figures for Spelman with 13 points each. In total, 11 different players scored in the contest for Spelman.
Pine Manor was led by a team-high 23 points from GSAC Freshman of the Year Alexis Lee (Akron, OH). Freshman Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, NJ) added 17 points of her own for the Gators, while Natasia Franklin (Windsor, CT) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
