Bulletin - Fall 2017

Dear Alumnae/i, Friends and Neighbors,

Since Pine Manor College’s inception over 100 years ago, the College has embraced change while maintaining a mission that educates and empowers the underrepresented. The founder of Pine Manor College, Helen Temple Cooke, saw a need to provide unique educational opportunities for women, a largely underrepresented population in her time. Pine Manor College continues with its commitment to the underrepresented by addressing the needs of a unique student population. Our mission is ‘Educating with Purpose,’ a commitment to a purposeful, individualized education that leads to great career opportunities.

Today, 85% of PMC students are students of color, 84% are the first in their family to attend college, and 80% are from low income households. They are hardworking, active learners committed to advancing their careers and their communities. 53% come from Massachusetts, with over half of them from Boston. 100% of our first-year students participate in service learning opportunities that benefit our local community and, for the second year in a row, 100% of our graduating class was employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduation. As in past years, our staff and faculty are a dedicated group of people who find meaning in investing in and supporting our students. I hope that you do as well.

In this magazine you will find stories of the people and programs that make it happen. And most of all, you will come to know and love our students.

Very truly yours,

Thomas M. O’Reilly

Erratum: In the Winter 2010 edition of the Bulletin (page 4) Professor William Stargard was incorrectly listed as the 2010 Ruth Allinger Gibson '26 Teaching Award. He, in fact, received the award in 2009. The 2010 recipients were Director of Teacher and Certification Programs Sandra McElroy and Psychology Professor Michele O. Ramirez. The Bulletin regrets the error.
