Sampling of Fall 2004 Internship Experiences
Photos
from Internship Reception, December 5, 2004
Bethany Silvia,
a Business major interested in running her own gallery and/or studio,
interned at Birch and Willow, an art studio in South Boston specializing
in handcrafted lighting fixtures. Silvia reported that she gained great
experience and had fun doing it. “It was an environment that
makes artistic energy thrive…any art student would love it,” she
commented. “I only hope that another student would have the same
great experience that I did.”
Jessica DaSilva, a Social
and Political Systems major, interned at the Mass. Department of Social
Services. She said she was “fortunate
to work with people who were so dedicated to their work.” She
had the chance “to meet troubled families and help them get back
on the right track.”
Ananda Mitchell (not pictured), a Communication major, interned at
Boston Casting. She helped cast television commercials and two reality
shows, including The Biggest Loser. Moreover, she reported, she learned
the importance of treating people with respect and dignity in the workplace. “I
would highly recommend this internship to people interested in acting.”
Ali
Cunha, a Psychology major,
interned at the Wayside Youth and Family Support Network in Framingham,
Mass. She got hands-on experience running conflict resolution groups
with youth and family members. Cunha also realized the importance of
teamwork, especially in a field that “provides safety and
consistency for kids who might never before have experienced that.”
Christina Burke (not pictured), a Visual Arts major, interned at Bridgewater
Camera and Studio. She “gained a wealth of knowledge about how
a studio and storefront are operated,” and reported that her
internship “led
her to think about the type of studio she wants” in the future.
Rhea
Foster, a Business major, interned at Commonwealth Financial
Group. She described having “gained a sense of direction in her
career path” and “personal growth.” Her internship
helped her become more confident in her knowledge of the financial
world, she reported.
Sandra Enwright (not pictured),
a Social and Political Systems major, interned at the Mass. State House.
Her site supervisor, Ron Marlow, chief of staff to State Senator Dianne
Wilkerson, reported, “Sandra is an excellent intern who has demonstrated
both the capacity and maturity to perform well in her assigned duties.
She performed at a level better than that of most interns. She has
been a pleasure to have in the office.”
Amanda Adamowicz, an English major,
with site supervisor, Susan Manning from SATCH Publishing, who is holding
up the magazine with Amanda’s photo on the cover.
Ashley Randall (not pictured), an English major, interned at Common
Cause, “a nonprofit, nonpartisan, political organization that
works to change democracy for the better.” She reported that “the
goals and campaigns of the organization created in me a new awareness
of the democratic process.”
Nicola Greene, Biology major, with site supervisor, Dr. Yvonne
Gomez, OB/GYN from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Boston.
Liz
Baez (not pictured), Yasmine Noza, and Barbara Andre, Biology majors,
found their experiences interning at Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s
Pathology Department interesting and valuable. The students got a better
understanding of what takes place in an autopsy suite and learned autopsy
procedures and techniques. In addition to gaining experience in a healthcare
setting, they developed skills in self-assessment with regard to choice
of education and their abilities for a medical career. Baez commented, "Now
that I have met all my objectives I feel a great sense of accomplishment
and pride. I knew exactly what I wanted to gain from an internship
opportunity, and I was able to find one that met my requirements.”
