Thanks to being named the named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of October 10, 2011, Pine Manor College junior Cheska Mendes (Dorchester, MA) is also the next Student-Athlete Spotlight.
Last week, Mendes led the Gators to two victories during the Pine Manor Invitational on Thusday October 6, 2011. Mendes finished in first plaece with an overall time of 22:13.00, helping the Gators to secure an overall team victory in the meet with a low score of 41 points.
Pine Manor also finsihed first in a dual meet versus Mount Ida College on the same day, as the two GNAC opponents were also racing head-to-head as part of the PMC Invitational. Mendes' first place time also helped the Gators to top the Mustangs 26-29.This was the second consecutive dual meet that Mendes finsihed first overall.
The result during the past week was just one of Mendes' fantastic finishes this fall. Mendes started the fall season with a time of 22:59, good enough to be the fourth finisher at the Mount Ida Invitational. She then finsihed with a season best time of 21:29.00, good enough to finish 17th and place 13th overall in the field at the Rivier Invitational. Mendes' time also secured a 22-32 team victory for Pine Manor in a dual meet versus Rivier College.
