Welcome to Pine Manor College's
First-Year Common Reading
Each year all First-year students read some common articles or books, which then become part of a community dialog and experience both inside of first-year seminars andwriting courses, and in the community as a whole. The reading program is designed to:
- Provide you with an opportunity to explore who they are and how others have struggled to achive their goals
- Allow you to enjoy reading over the summer and to prepare for the academic challenges and engagement that lie ahead; and
- Provide you with an opportunity to explore new perspectives and ways of viewing the world.
In the past, readings have included the graphic novel Persepolis, an article by Johnathan Haidt on the inspriation to "do good", and the biography of Paul Rusesabagina and his humanitarian work in the Rwandan genocide.
The 2011 Common Readings will be posted here by mid-June.
