Counseling Center

Our Goals

At the Counseling Center we seek to support and enhance learning, personal development and growth. The college years present challenges and opportunities to develop academically, socially and emotionally. Many students find these challenges difficult to navigate on their own and seek support and guidance. The Counseling Center staff is available to explore any issues or challenges students may have in a safe and confidential setting.

Services

Personal Counseling
The Counseling Center offers individual counseling to all PMC students with no session limit. Some of the issues students come to counseling to discuss are: relationships, identity, depression, anxiety, general stress, academics, sleep, substance use/abuse, anger management and conflict resolution, and self-esteem. A plan is made together with the student about how to address the issues discussed and how often counseling sessions are recommended. Students are invited to come to the Counseling Center any time they are experiencing distress and would like to speak with a trained professional in a confidential setting.

Psychopharmacology
We offer medication evaluations with a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner for students referred by one of the counseling staff.

Groups and Workshops

Each year the Counseling Center offers workshops and groups on such topics as smoking cessation, substance abuse, violence prevention, bereavement, parenting and stress reduction. If you would like to suggest a topic for a group or workshop, please contact us. We are always open to new ideas!
