Exploratory Internship 295 Process
Student Requirements
Exploratory Internship Student requirements:
- 8-10 hours per week on-site
- Daily journal reflecting on site experiences
- Regular meeting with site supervisor
- Regular meetings with faculty supervisor (at least 3 times per semester)
- Project/paper reflecting on relationship of internship to academic learning
- Summary paper for Internship office
Faculty Expectations
Faculty supervisors of IN295 internships should:
- Meet with student on regular basis
- Help student reflect on goals below
- Read and comment on student journal on regular basis
- Initiate and maintain contact with site supervisor.
- Visit site at least once.
Internship Goals
Students participating in exploratory internships should expect to accomplish the following:
- An understanding of how to be reflective about her internship experience in a way that contributes to her personal and professional growth.
- An understanding of how what she is learning in her academic and co-curricular experiences at PMC can be applied in the workplace.
- An understanding of the organizational structure and culture of her place of work; how that might differ from other places of work; and the implications of the effect of difference structures and cultures on the way the workplace is experienced.
- An understanding of the career possibilities in the field represented by her internship site.
