Shea Speaks on Elderly Homelessness
at California Conferences

Assistant Professor of Sociology Robert E. Shea, Jr., presented two papers to the Gerontological
Society of America Conference in San Diego: Tipping the Scales:
An Exploration of the Causes of Homelessness Among Older People
in the Boston Area and Causes of Later Life Homelessness
in Victoria, Australia.

Shea also presented two papers at the American Public Health Association
Conference in San Francisco: Variations in the Causes of Homelessness:
A United States Perspective and Causes of Later Life
Homelessness in Victoria, Australia.
All the California presentations are part of a three-nation
study looking at the risk factors for elderly homelessness in Australia,
Great Britain, and the United States.
Ramirez and Shea Present Paper

An Alternative Approach to the Traditional Research Course,
at the Ninth Annual Northeast Conference for Teachers of Psychology
(NECTOP), held at Salem State College.
Montella to Perform in Nutcracker
December 2003
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Dance Sharon Montella will be performing in Boston Dance Company's Nutcracker.
Recently, she also choreographed a short work for members of the
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
Rabe's Artwork on Display in York,
Maine, Show

Assistant Professor of Visual
Arts Carole Rabe's work is currently being shown in "Accord
V,"an exhibition exploring the juxtaposition of contemporary
art with historical furniture and decorative arts, sponsored by
the Old York Historical Society, in York, Maine. The show runs October
25 to November 30, 2003, in the George Marshall Store Gallery, 140
Lindsay Road.
Pennell's Students Participate
in Rock the Vote/MTV Democratic Primary Forum
November 5, 2003
Assistant Professor of Communication Marilyn Pennell took a group of PMC students to the Rock the Vote/MTV
Democratric Presidential Primary Forum on November 4, 2003. The
students will write articles about the forum for the next Gator
Gazette, and they will work on a short video documentary. Pennell
was also selected to be a faculty fellow by the National Organization
for Television Program Executives at their annual conference in
January.

Miller Presents Work on Boston's
Homeless
Spring 2003
Adjunct Anthropology Instructor Cynthia Miller gave talks last spring on her long-term
project of oral histories of Boston's homeless at the annual meeting
of the Association of American Geographers in New Orleans, the meeting
of the Association for the Study of Environmental History in Providence,
Rhode Island, the meeting of the Association for the Study of Literature
and the Environment, and at the Hawaii International Conference
of Social Sciences.
Harrison Helps Organize Diversity
Networking Event
Spring 2003
Nisa Harrison, Assistant Professor of Mathematics,
and treasurer of the Young Professionals Network attended and helped
organize the Diversity Network Event of the Year at the Federal
Reserve Bank of Boston. The event was cosponsored by a number of
local organizations and attended by several hundred minority professionals
and students.
