ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference has announced the women's basketball Player of the Week for games played December 2 - 8 and, following voting by the league's sports information directors, Ari DeJesus of Pine Manor won her third award of the season.
Pine Manor sophomore Ari DeJesus (Providence, R.I) scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds on Monday vs. Albertus Magnus before scoring 18 points, collecting eight rebounds and dishing out three assists in a 97-39 rout of Hampshire on Wednesday. DeJesus then closed out the week by recording a career-high 29 points and 25 rebounds, collecting her fifth double-double of the season, to lead the Gators to a 76-66 victory over Simmons on Saturday afternoon. For the week, DeJesus averaged 24.3 points per game, 15.3 rebounds per game and 2.6 assists per game as the Gators went 2-1.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
