ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) has announced the women's basketball Player of the Week for games played November 11 - 17 and, following voting by the league's sports information directors, Ari DeJesus of Pine Manor won the first award of the young season.
Pine Manor sophomore Ari DeJesus (Providence, R.I.), left, recorded back-to-back double-doubles this weekend, earning All-Tournament and Tournament MVP honors as the Gators won the 2013 AMCATS Classic Tip-Off Tournament Championship. DeJesus scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help lead the Gators to a commanding 92-70 victory over Bay Path College in the opening round before scoring a game-high 23 points while collecting 18 rebounds to lead PMC to an 83-62 victory over host Anna Maria in the championship game on Sunday afternoon.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
