Junior Therline Dumeran was named the 2010-11 Pine Manor College Athlete of the Year at the annual Athletic Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 4. Dumeran received the award thanks to an outstanding season as a member of the Gators basketball team. This season, she was named the 2010-2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year, as well as named to a spot on the GNAC All-Conference Second Team.
Dumeran led the conference in both steals with 4.2 per game and blocked shots with 3.1 per game, while averaging a double-double, with 14.2 points per game and 12.7 rebounds per game, this season. Her 14.2 points per game made her one of the top ten scorers in the conference, while her 12.7 rebounds per game were good for second in the GNAC.
Freshman Ashley Carusone was named the 2011 recipient of the Peter G. Ellis award, presented annually to a first-year student-athlete for demonstrating dedication, spirit and ability. Carusone beat out fellow nominees and classmates Megan Patch and Macayla Kirylo to earn the honor. The GNAC Rookie of the Week for April 12 received the award after starting every game for both the volleyball and softball teams this season.
PMC’s Director of Grounds and Maintenance John Hatch was given the Henry Baker Appreciation Award, given annually to a member of the Pine Manor community who has given strong and gracious support to Pine Manor Athletics. This year, John’s assistance was invaluable to the entire department, especially this spring when weather issues threatened our playing fields on an everyday basis.
Other award winners included freshman Natasha Kopystynsky, the 2011 recipient of the PMC Pride Award – formerly the Gator Pride Award –presented to the student-athlete who exemplifies Pride, Enthusiasm and commitment to athletics and competition. While, the Pine Manor sportsmanship award was given to senior Michelle Campbell.
Sophomore Alie Johnston received this year’s Gator Athletic award. This year the Gator Athletic Award was presented to a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee who has shown outstanding dedication and support to all Pine Manor Athletes, the Athletic Department and the College Community.
In addition to the individual award winners, six student-athletes were honored with a place the Pine Manor All-Academic Team Sophomores Cheska Mendes, Margaret Roberts and Colleen Tencza, Juniors Christina Santos and Jen Gross and Senior Michelle Campbell all earned their spot thanks to having a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher during their time at Pine Manor College. From this group, the 2011 Scholar-Athlete Award was presented to Margaret Roberts.
