CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Daniel Webster College sophomore Alexis Pavelock (Saratoga Springs, NY) connected on a bouncing ball in the penalty area with just under 15 minutes to play to give the visiting Eagles a 1-0 victory over Pine Manor on Wednesday afternoon at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, MA.
Daniel Webster earned a corner kick just past the 75 minute mark of the second half and Pavelock was able to deliver the only goal of the game after senior Sabrina Dluzieski (Auburn,MA) delivered the ball into the Pine Manor box. With a nearby Gator defender unable to clear the bouncing ball Pavelock connected to score the eventual game-winning goal.
Pine Manor had its chances, as the Gators took 15 shots in the contest, getting nine to the goal, but were unable to beat Daniel Webster sophomore Skye Ferland (Morrisville, VT). Pine Manor freshman Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, NJ) led the team with 9 shots, while junior goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, IL) finished with 6 saves— including a stellar stop in the final minutes of the game to keep the Gators within a goal.
Pine Manor will now look to Saturday as they will host Fisher College at Hedley Field for a 1:00 p.m. contest. Daniel Webster will host Maine Maritime in their home opener at 12:00 p.m. in Nashua, NH.
