BOSTON, MA -- Emerson raced out to a 35-18 haltime advantage as the Lions stomped Pine Manor, 84-33, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball action Thursday night at Brown & Plofker Gym.
Sophomore forward Paulette Wright posted her third straight double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior guard Enjolee Phillips added 11 points as the Gators failed to come up with thier first win in 14 tried.
A Phillips layup cut the early Lions lead to 12-8 before a 6-0 Lions run, but Pine Manor answered with a Phillips three-pointer and a Jataiya Alexander layup to get back within five, at 18-13.
Emerson came back with a 17-5 run to close the half, going in leading 35-18. Leading scorer Olivia Di Nucci, who entered the contest third in the GNAC at 15 points per game, led all players with 24 points. The freshman scored 17 after halftime, shooting 6-9 in the second, including 3-5 from beyond the arc as, she and the Lions prevented any chance of a Gators comeback.
Pine Manor returns to action Saturday at noon, playing host to Norwich in GNAC play.
