BOSTON, Mass. -- Emerson College defeated Pine Manor College, 90-64, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game, on Monday January 16 at the Brown-Plofker Gymnasium in Boston, MA. The Lions shot a staggering 46 percent on the day, shooting over 50 percent in the first-half, en route to the victory.
Emerson junior Olivia DiNucci (Pittsburgh, PA) finished with 24 points to lead all scorers, while Emerson freshmen Kristin Brice (Indiana, PA) also finished with 20 points for the Lions. Emerson sophomore classmates Olivia Connors (Windham, NH) and Elissa Chojnicki (Dover, NH) also finished in double-figures for the Lions, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.
For Pine Manor, seniors Paulette Wright (Baltimore, MD), 13 points, and Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, MA), 11 points, each finsihed in double-figures. Dumeran also recorded a double-double, grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds, while finishing just three block short of a triple-double with seven blocks. Senior Jessica Gilmore (Dorchester, MA), junior Tia Nelson (Rockport, MA) and sophmore Ashley Carusone (Nashua, NH) each finished with nine points for the Gators.
Emerson's hot shooting helped the Lions get out to a first-half lead of as many as 18 points following a three-pointer by DiNucci with 4:24 remaining before the half. While the Gators would cut the halftime deficit down to 14 points, at 50-36, Pine Manor would get no closer than an 11 point deficit with 17:38 remaing in the second.
Emerson, increased its lead to as many as 28 points in the closing minutes of the second-half before eventually taking the 90-64 final.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Nashua, NH for a GNAC game versus Rivier College at 7:00 p.m.
