CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Rich Fazzi has been named the inaugural Head Coach of Men’s Basketball at Pine Manor College (PMC), announced PMC Director of Athletics John Griffith on Tuesday.
Fazzi comes to PMC after spending the last two years as the head coach at Dean College in Franklin, Mass. Fazzi led the Bulldogs to a 20-3 record during the 2013-14 campaign. He earned District Two Coach of the Year Honors as the Bulldogs captured the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 21 and District Two Championships and made the school’s first ever trip to the NJCAA National Tournament in Danville IL.
The Bulldogs opened last season with 13 straight victories, climbing as high as the top spot in the NJCAA Top 20 National Poll before finishing the year ranked eleventh. Dean was ranked in the top 20 every week of the season and finished first in the country in steals per game and eleventh in scoring. Fazzi’s 38-11 career record at Dean is the highest winning percentage of any basketball coach in the school’s history.
Prior to Dean, Fazzi spent two years as Head Coach Phil Rowe’s top assistant for the men’s basketball program at Endicott College. Fazzi played an integral part in helping Endicott to once again become one of the top programs in New England. During the 2011-12 season, Endicott won its first Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament Championship in six years and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.
Prior to Endicott, Fazzi spent five years as the associate head coach at Suffolk University following a one year stint as an assistant coach at nearby Newbury College.
A 2004 graduate of Becker College, Fazzi was a three year starter and two year captain for the Hawks. He left the Worcester campus as the 8th all-time leading scorer and also set the career field goal percentage record.
