Finding a Work-Study JobStudents who are eligible for Federal Work-Study (FWS) are responsible for finding a work position on their own. A Federal Work-Study award on the Financial Aid Award Letter does not guarantee a work position for the student.
The specific working hours and the established number of working hours approved per week are arranged so they do not interfere with class attendance, health or academic progress. Students generally work up to 20 hours per week. The amount of FWS indicated on your Financial Aid Award Letter represents estimated earnings and is not guaranteed if you work less than the number of hours required to reach the awarded amount. On the other hand, FWS earnings are limited to the award amount specified on your Financial Aid Award Letter. Students and supervisors will receive notice when a student has $300 of federal work-study eligibility remaining. Supervisors and the employee should adjust the employee’s schedule if necessary at that time. Students are paid at the current federal minimum wage. Students are paid for actual hours worked and cannot be paid for holidays, sick time, snow days, or mealtime. Students are paid bi-weekly for hours worked during the preceding two-week period. Students awarded FWS must report to the Financial Aid Office for orientation and placement. Additional information regarding employment procedures is provided to prospective employees during the job placement interview. There are specific forms each student must complete before working. If a time sheet is submitted for someone who is not authorized to work, the student will not be paid for those submitted hours. All paperwork must be complete for a student to be eligible to work and be paid for any hours worked. |
