Sources of Financial Aid:
Scholarships, Grants, Loans and Other Sources
Pine Manor College is dedicated to helping students with financial
need. Over 70 percent of our full-time students receive financial assistance
in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and work-study jobs. The
average financial aid award to student recipients is $15,606. After
financial aid is calculated, many of our students find that our bottom-line
costs are competitive with state-related schools.
As long as your family financial situation does not change dramatically
and you meet continuing eligibility requirements for institutional
funds, you can normally expect to receive financial aid of the same
amount as in previous years at PMC.
Types of Financial Aid
There are two types of financial aid awards: gift aid and self-help
aid.
1) Gift Aid
Gift Aid are awards, such as grants and scholarships, that do not
have to be paid back.
- Grants
- A grant is a form of financial aid that is a lot like a scholarship.
This is money awarded to you by a college that does not need to be
paid back.
- Scholarships
- A scholarship is an award that is offered from many
areas. There are scholarships available in many places including
your college, workplace, high school, community and state. This is
money does not need to be paid back.
2) Self-help Aid
Self-help Aid are awards, such as loans and employment, that must
be repaid through money or labor.
- Loans
- A loan is money borrowed from a bank or lender. This is financial
aid that does need to be paid back (payments usually begin six months
after graduation).
- Federal Work Study
- This is money that is awarded through the college
that allows you to work for a given amount. This money does not directly
help you with the cost of tuition and is not always guaranteed.
