CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Pine Manor College sophomore forward Natasia Franklin (Windsor, CT) scored a career-high 27 points, and four other Gators finished in double-figures, to help Pine Manor earn a 75-57 victory over Lesley University at Buckingham Browne and Nichols School on Thursday evening. The win, Pine Manor's first of the season, improves the Gators to 1-2 early in the season. Lesley is now 0-4 on the year.
Franklin scored 17 of her 27 points in the first half to help the Gators take a 40-25 halftime advantage. The Lynx got out to an early advantage, leading the Gators until the 10:43 mark of the first half when PMC freshman Alexis Lee (Akron, OH) made a layup to give the Gators a 16-14 lead. Lee finished the game with 12 points for Pine Manor. She was joined in double-figures by fellow freshman Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, NJ) and Meagan Badohu (Boston, MA) who scored 13 and 11 points respectively. Badohu finished with the games only double-double, as she also collected 10 rebounds in the game. PMC senior Ashley Reeves (Roxbury, MA) added 11 points off the bench.
A pair of layups and a free throw by Lesley's Grace Amato then helped the Lynx regain the lead at 19-18 at 9:25 of the first half. From that point forward Pine Manor would go on a 17-0 run, capped by a layup from Lee with 2:27 remaining in the opening session, to take a 35-19 lead. Amato scored a team-high 16 points for Lesely.
In the second half, Lesley would cut the Pine Manor lead to five points, at 46-41, with 14:47 remaining. However, the hosts would get no closer for the remainder of the contest as Pine Manor stretched its lead back to a comfortable advantage before coming away with the 75-57 victory.
The Gators will be back in action on Saturday when they face local rival Newbury College at noon. The game will be the third in four days for the Gators. Meanwhile, Lesley will host Fisher College on Sunday at 1:00 PM, still in search of their first victory of the season.
