Boston, Mass. -- Fueled by aggressive defense and contributions from the entire roster, Suffolk defeated Pine Manor 93-46 Tuesday evening at Regan Gymnasium in Boston, MA. Suffolk freshman forward Jessica Bard (Harleysville, Penn.) led all scorers with 15 points off the bench for the Rams. Senior Enjolee Phillips (Hartford, CT/Weaver) had 11 points to lead the Gators, while junior Yafia Dowridge (White Plains, NY/Woodlands) had 10 points for Pine Manor, who drops to 3-9 on the season and 0-2 early in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
Pine Manor took an early lead in the contest as junior Ashley Reeves (Roxbury, MA/Snowden International) knocked down the first basket of the game. The teams traded possessions and turnovers in the opening minutes, as each struggled to find any sort of shooting rhythm. A pair of free-throws by Aponi Washington (Brockton,MA/Brockton) made the score 6-3 in favor of Pine Manor , before Suffolk sophomore Jessica Vienneau (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) hit a three to tie it at 6-6. From that point, Suffolk would go on a 15-0 run to take an 18-6 lead 6:15 into the game.
Leading 47-21 at the half, Suffolk would open the second with a 13-3 run to build their lead to 60-24 before Tia Nelson(Rockport,MA/Rockport) and Reeves hit back-to-back three pointers for Pine Manor five minutes into the second half. However, from that point Suffolk would continue to pull away, as the Rams forced 31 Pine Manor turnovers in the game, helping to power an impressive transition offense.
Thirteen different players scored in the game for Suffolk (5-5, 1-0 GNAC). Sophomore Dominique Demar (Colcester, Conn.) and junior Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H) each had 12 points for the Rams, while junior Andorra Salaices (Franklin, Mass.) also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points.
