Clermont, FL -- Pine Manor had two-runners aboard and the tying run on deck but was unable to get on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Gators fell 4-0 to the College of St. Scholastica this afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.
St. Scholastica junior Merryssa Tiedeman (Zumbrota, MN/Zumbrotta Mazeppa) hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give the Saints a 4-0 lead and insurance heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning. Pine Manor's Kaylyn Delgado (Worcester, MA/Bartlett) and Michelle Campbell (Baltimore, MD/Seton Keough) would both single in the bottom-half of the seventh inning, bringing freshman Macayla Kirylo to the plate with the chance to cut the deficit to one. However, Kirylo would ground into a double play as the Saints would end the threat and take the 4-0 victory.
The teams played a scoreless game until the second innning when St. Scholastica would put two runs up on the board. with a runner on-base, St. Scholastica freshman Tiffany Huddack (Ashland, WI/Ashland) ripped a triple to drive in the first run of the game. Huddack would then score on a wild pitch to give the Saints the 2-0 advantage. The two teams would post scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth innings before Tiedman's two-run shot would double the Saints lead to 4-0. Junior Tara Doehler (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet) went the distance for Pine Manor, striking out four and surrenduring four earned runs over 7 innings.
Pine Manor now drops to 0-5 early in the 2011 season, while St. Scholastica brings its record back to .500 at 3-3. Pine Manor will conclude its trip to Clermont, Florida tomorrow morning when it takes on Rensselaer at 9:00 a.m. athe National Training Center.
