Chestnut Hill, Mass. -- Wheelock College got out to a 13-6 lead midway through the first half, and never trailed in the game, en route to a 64-53 victory over Pine Manor on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Pine Manor Gym. The win was the third of the season for Wheelock (3-6), while Pine Manor drops to 3-7 with the loss.
For Pine Manor, Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge & Latin) led all scorers with a game-high 24 points, but was the only Gator to score in double figures. Dumeran came within two rebounds of notching her second triple-double of the season, finishing with 8 boards and a game-high 12 steals, to go along with 4 blocks. Phibe Pham (Boston, MA/Snowden International) also had 8 points to go along with 3 assists for Pine Manor.
Trailing 34-21 at the half, Pine Manor managed to cut the Wheelock lead to six at 46-40 following a jumper by Sivan Thammachak (Fitchburg, MA/Fitchburg) with 10:16 to go. However, that is as close as the score would get as Pine Manor had no answer for Wheelock’s Jessica Ramsey (Milford, MA/Hopedale) in the second half. Ramsey poured in 16 of her team-high 23 points in the second half, knocking down six three-pointers in the contest.
The Gators would close the gap to 58-51 in the final two minutes of play, but could never get passed the Wildcats.
Keneisha Milton (Boston, MA/Wayland)scored 13 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for Wheelock who established a clear advantage on the glass, grabbing 52 rebounds, and 21 offensive rebounds to only 23 total for the Gators. Kayla Drescher (Wallingford, CT/Mark T. Sheehan) also had ten points for the Wildcats.
Pine Manor moves next to the home opener of its Great Northeast Athletic Conference Schedule on Saturday, January 8, vs. Rivier College. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
