DORCHESTER, MA -- Pine Manor fell to 0-3 with a 65-58 loss to Southern Vermont in the consolation contest of the UMass-Boston Tip-Off Classic Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center.

Paulette Wright (left) led the Gators with 19 points, hitting on 5-6 free throws, while Stacie Beauford added 17, and Yiafia Dowridge followed with nine, also making good on 5-6 from the stripe. Sophomores Rachel Pannell and Alyssa Davis led Southern Vermont with 15 points each.

In a tale of two halves, Pine Manor shot an ice-cold 13 percent in the first. The Gators converted on just five field goals in the half, digging itself a 19-point halftime hole at 37-18.

Alex Gould's club responded early and often in the second. Yiafia Dowridge took off after corralling a defensive rebounded and connected on a 17-footer to make the score 37-22, leading Southern Vermont coach Mike Rose to take a time out 90 seconds into the frame.

Wright intercepted a pass at halfcourt and cruised in for a layup that cut the margin to 13 at the 12:15 mark. On the next trip down court, her jumper in the paint cut the Mountaineers lead to 47-36 with 11:55 to play.

After Rose's team extended its lead back to 14, freshman Sivan Thammachak's first career three-point field goal shrank the margin back to 11 at the 9:00 mark. Three minutes later, junior Jammy Torres connected on a floater in traffic to cut the lead to single digits, at 65-58, leading to another Rose time out, but the Gators could never crawl to within striking distance in the closing minutes.

Pine Manor will take a 10-day break and return at WIT on Wednesday, December 2 at 7 p.m.
