CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior Yiafia Dowridge (White Plains, NY) scored a game-high 15 points to help lead Pine Manor College (4-3, 0-0 GNAC) over visiting Wheelock College on Thursday evening at Pine Manor Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill, MA.
A lay-up by Ashley Carusone (Nashua, NH) capped off a 19-2 Pine Manor run with 7:58 remaining in the first half as the Gators opened the game on a 19-2 run, never trailing en route to their fourth victory of the season. Carusone finished with six points for the Gators. Trailing by 17, Wheelock put down its second field of the first-half when senior Kayla Drescher (Wallingford, CT) ending an 11 minute scoring drought for the Wildcats.
Drescher’s first basket of the game sent Wheelock on a run of its own, as the Wildcats scored the next seven unanswered points to close the gap back to ten points at 19-9 with 4:46 left in the first. However, that was as close as the game would get for the remainder of the contest. Drescher finished with 7 points for Wheelock. The Wildcats were led by a game-high 10 points from sophomore Jessica Ramsey (Milford, MA).
Pine Manor finished the first half on a 10-2 run, taking a 29-11 lead into the half. In the second-half it was more of the same for Pine Manor, as the Gators pushed the lead out to as many as 35 points in the second session before ultimately taking the 61-39 victory. For Pine Manor, senior Phibe Pham (Boston, MA) finished in double-figures with 14 points, while Jessica Gilmore (Dorchester, MA) finished with 9 points off the bench. The Gators also collected a staggering 28 steals as a team, forcing 40 Wheelock turnovers in the contest.
For Wheelock, Kinesha Milton (Boston, MA) collected a game-high 18 rebounds, helping the Wildcats to win the battle on the boards by a 50-38 margin. Wheelock now drops to 0-7 on the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday when they host Bay Path.
Pine Manor will next travel to Annandale-on-Hudson, NY for a Sunday matinee at Bard College. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
