NEWTON, MA - The Gators dropped both halves of a GNAC tri-match at Mount Ida, falling to the host Mustangs 3-1 and to Suffolk 3-0.
Mount Ida scored got off to a 4-0 run to open Game 1 and cruised to a 25-13 victory. After trailing 6-5 to open Game 2, the Mustangs ran off a 10-0 run to seal a 25-9 victory.
The third set ended on a brighter note, as Pine Manor improved to 3-0 in overtime games with a 29-27 win to avoid the sweep. In Game 4, a Jen Gross kill brought the Gators to within 14-7, but Pine Manor couldn't close the gap any further in a Mount Ida 25-15 victory.
Gross led the Gators with eight kills and four blocks, while Alie Johnston added four blocks of her own to go with six kills.
In the middle match, Suffolk swept the Gators, winning 25-16, 25-12 and 25-13. Gross totaled seven kills and a block against the Rams, while Johnston chipped in with three blocks and a pair of service aces.
Pine Manor falls to 1-8 on the season (0-5 GNAC). The Gators play host to UMass-Dartmouth in non-conference action on Tuesday night in Pine Manor Gym.
