CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Vermont Tech freshman Mallory Fischer (Jericho, VT) recorded a hat-trick and junior Tabitha Totten (St. Albans, VT) scored two goals off the bench to lead visiting Vermont Tech to a 7-0 victory over Pine Manor on Saturday afternoon at Hedley Field.
Vermont Tech senior Ashley Lockerby (Enosburg, VT) opened the scoring for the visitors at 15:51 of the first half when she connected on a shot from the top of the penalty area to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage. From that point, Fischer and Totten combined to score the next five Vermont Tech goals as the visitors raced to a commanding first half lead.
Fischer scored in the 18th and 26th minute of the first half to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. Totten then joined the action as a substitute late in the first and capitalized on back-to-back assists from Eileen Gomez (Burlington, VT) to make the score 4-0 in the 38th minute and 5-0 just a minute later. Fischer capped off the first half by completing her hat trick as she slotted home a pass from freshman Ashley Young (Concord, VT) just minutes before halftime.
Vermont Tech added another goal in the second to finish off the scoring and take the eventual 7-0 victory. The win is the second in-a-row for Vermont Tech and they will look to carry their momentum into tomorrow and a 1:00 p.m. matchup with Hampshire College.
Pine Manor will look to regroup on Tuesday evening when they take on Wheelock College at 4:00 p.m. at Hedley Field.
