Gators fall to top-seed Lions

NEWTON, MA -- Kayla Ferrara went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, but the Gators couldn't hold on to a 2-1 fourth inning lead, falling 4-2 to top-seed Emerson Friday afternoon at Mount Ida College.
Ferrara scored on a Jackie Martinez single to put the Gators (19-19) up 2-1, but the Lions quickly answered. Bridget Fargo singled home Catie McDounough, who later scored on a Courtney Wallace error to put Emerson on top, 3-2. Designated hitter Lynn Herman led off the fifth with a solo homer to center to make the score 4-2, which would be the final.
Gators starter Tara Doehler picked up the tough luck loss, going seven innings, scattering seven hits and walking one. She got little help from the Gators defense, which committed four errors, two a piece by All-GNAC First Teamers Wallace and shortstop Patty Pabon.
Pine Manor moves on to face 2008 GNAC Champion Rivier tomorrow at noon at Lasell College in Newton.
