Pine Manor College women's basketball ran its overall record to 10-1 on the season with a 100-88 victory over the College of New Rochelle (CNR) on Saturday afternoon in New Rochelle, NY.
Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) paced four Gators in double-figures with 24 points, while Ari DeJesus (Providence, R.I.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, adding a game-high seven assists and five steals. Freshman Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan) added 17 points in the contest, while classmate Jayva Johnson (West Haven, Conn.) add 14 points.
The Blue Angels fall to 7-5 on the season, despite receiving a game-high 42 points and 14 rebounds from Jasmine Brandon. Alyssa Pechin added 20 points and five assists, and Holly Cammarota chipped in with 17 points and eight rebounds for CNR.
The game was a back-and-forth affair for much of the first half, with neither team holding a lead of more than four points, until Pine Manor began to open up a lead. The Gators led, 31-29, with 5:42 left until the break before a 14-4 run made the score 45-22 with 2:51 left before the break. Pine Manor held a 46-39 advantage at the half.
The Gators pushed the lead to 15, 58-43, early in the second half before the Blue Angels clawed back to within six, 60-54, following a Pechin three pointer with 13:15 remaining, but did not draw any closer, as the Gators pulled away, leading by double-digits for the final 12 minutes en route to their tenth victory of the season.
Pine Manor will return to action on Thursday when they take on local rival Lasell College on Thursday evening in Newton, MA. Tip off is at 7:00 PM.
