Clermont, FL -- Pine Manor opened its 2011 Softball season, losing two games on Sunday at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida. The Gators lost 9-0 to Ithaca College, the eighth ranked team in the nation, before dropping a 3-0 decision to Concordia University in the afternoon.
In the Gators' first game of the day, Ithaca College Senior Allison Greaney (John F. Kennedy/Iselin, N.J) and freshman Jillian Olmstead (Caesar Rodney/Magnolia, Del.) combined to no-hit Pine Manor over five innings as the Bombers defeated Pine Manor 9-0. For Pine Manor, junior Tara Doehler (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet) surrendered six hits and one walk over four innings pitched, while Pine Manor freshman Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, RI/William E. Tolman Senior) made her collegiate pitching debut, giving up a hit and walking three batters in one inning of work.
Ithaca senior Brittany Lillie (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Mendon) gave the Bombers the lead for good when she hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Lillie finished the game with two runs scored as well as two runs batted in. Ithaca Senior Kerry Barger (Carmel, NY/Carmel) was 2-3 with one run scored and one run batted in.
In the second game of the day, Pine Manor fell 3-0 to Concordia University (WI). Tara Doehler pitched a complete game for the Gators, giving up seven hits and only one earned run, while walking two. Senior Jess Kennedy (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet), sophomore Kaylyn Delgado (Worcester, MA/Bartlett) and Kirylo each had a hit for Pine Manor. Freshman Ashley Carusone (Nashua, NH/Nashua Norht) recorded the Gators' first stolen base of the season and recorded 8 putouts during a busy day in the field.
Tomorrow, Pine Manor will look for its first win of 2011 when they play a pair of games against Indiana Tech. The Warriors set a school record for wins last season when they won 36 games and they are currently 7-8 on the season. First-pitch for game one at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
