Boston, Mass.-- Fiona O'Dwyer (Stamford, CT/Stamford) scored 14 points and Emmanuel College received scoring contributions from 13 different players as the Saints defeated Pine Manor, 81-33, on Saturday afternoon in Boston, MA. For Emmanuel, the win was the thirteenth of the season (13-7 overall) and the eighth in a row in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action for the current conference front-runner and pre-season favorite.
For Pine Manor, sophomore Tia Nelson (Rockport, MA/Rockport) scored 9 points, knocking down 3 three-pointers in the game – include back-to-back three-point shots on the Gators first two possessions of the game. Junior Paulette Wright (Baltimore, MD/Seton Keough) contributed 8 points for the Gators, while also pulling in 7 rebounds. Senior guard Enjolee Phillips (Hartford,CT/Weaver) also pulled down 7 rebounds for the Gators. With the loss Pine Manor drops to 5-13 overall and 2-6 in GNAC play.
While the Gators found themselves with a very early lead they were plagued by turnovers, finishing with 38 in the game. Emmanuel's aggressive defense helped the Saints to score 31 points off of turnovers in the game. Emmanuel controlled the inside game as well, finishing with a 36-10 advantage on points scored in the paint and a 54-36 rebounding advantage in the game. Emmanuel led by as many as 51 points late in the second, as they assumed control following the early minutes of the game. Freshmen Darcey Sullivan (Dalton,MA/Wahconah Regional) also finished in double-figures for the Saints, as she scored 10 points.
Pine Manor returns to action on Tuesday night when the Gators will host Lasell College (1-17, 0-7 GNAC) at Pine Manor Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
