Game One: Pine Manor 16, Wheelock 1 (5 innings)
The Gators scored in every inning of game one, tallying five runs in the bottom of the first inning, two in the second, two in third and seven in the fourth.
Senior Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, R.I.), junior Anastasia Walker (West Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, Calif) and freshman Alexis Bushika (Adams, Mass.) each collected two hits apiece in the contest. In addition, Bushika drove in a team-high four runs while also striking out three Wheelock batters over five innings of work to earn the victory in the circle.
The Wildcats added a late run to break Bushika’s shutout bid. With one out and sophomore Kiersten Cosgrove (Pequannock, N.J.) on second, freshman Marisa Doyle (Kingston, Mass.) singled to centerfield to drive home the only Wheelock run in the top of the fifth. Both Cosgrove and Doyle collected a pair of hits in game one.
Game Two: Pine Manor 11, Wheelock 3 (5 innings)
Game two opened with a pair of scoreless frames before the Wildcats took the lead in the top of the third inning. Doyle, the starting pitcher in game two, helped her own cause with an RBI groundout, scoring Marisa Stolting (New Britain, Conn.) to make the score 1-0 Wheelock.
Trailing for the first time on the day, the Gators responded with a four run bottom of the third inning. Senior Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, Ill.) reached base after being hit by a pitch to open the inning. She then made her way home on an RBI single from Rose. Kirylo, Bushika and Vanessa Soto (Fontana, Calif.) then each added RBI hits in the inning to make the score 4-1.
In the fourth inning, Cosgrove manufactured the first of two Wheelock runs when she scored on a wild pitch after reaching on an error, stealing second and moving to third on a single from Vanessa Valenti (Woodstock, Conn.). Following Cosgrove’s trip around the base path, Valenti scored from third on an RBI single from Becca House (Middlebury, Conn.) to cut the Wildcat deficit to 4-3.
The one run deficit is as close as the Wildcats would get for the remainder of the contest as Rose and Mutsumi Ogiso (Gifu Japan), pictured above, each drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth before the Gators tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 11-3 victory in five innings.
Ogiso, Rose and Kirylo all finished game two with three hits for the Gators— Rose also had a team-high four RBI in the game. Kirylo finished the day with five hits total, leaving her just three hits shy of 100 in her Pine Manor career.
Wheelock will travel to Bennington, VT tomorrow for a doubleheader versus conference-foe Southern Vermont. The Gators will be off until next Wednesday when they will again face the Wildcats at 3:00 PM at Pine Manor Field.
