CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- A seventh inning rally came up short in game one as Pine Manor College dropped a 7-6 decision in game one before capturing a 16-9 victory in game two versus Mount Ida on Saturday afternoon as part of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader in Newton, MA. With the win in game two the Gators improve to 4-10 overall and in the conference.
With Pine Manor trailing 7-3 entering the final frame in game one, sophomore Ashley Carusone (Nashua, NH)singled with one out before stealing second. A walk by classmate Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, RI), pictured above, gave Pine Manor two on with two-out beofre junior Kaylyn Delgado (Worcester, MA) delivered a three-run home run to pull the Gaotrs to within one before a strikeout retired the side and Mout Ida capture the game one victory.
In game two, the Gaotrs picked up where the left off, as Delgado, Kirylo and Carusone all hit home runs and the Gators drove in 16 runs on 18 hits as seven different players had multi-hit games for Pine Manor. The Gators scored six runs in the second and seven runs in the seventh as they scored at least one run in every inning but the third to take the game two victory 16-9.
Pine Manor will now travel to Standish, ME on Monday to take on Saint Joseph's in a make-up game for the game that was postponed on March 28.
