Boston, Mass. -- Despite 12 points and 17 rebounds from junior Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge) Pine Manor suffered a 75-45 setback to Simmons College on Monday, January 17, 2011. For Dumeran, its was the ninth time this season that she recorded at least a double-double for the Gators, who fall to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Simmons moves to within one game of .500 at 7-8 overall, while picking up its second GNAC victory of the season to even its conference mark at 2-2.
Junior Phibe Pham (Boston, MA/Snowden) had 8 points for the Gators while sophomore Tia Nelson (Rockport, MA/Rockport) contributed 7 points and junior Yafia Dowridge (White Plains, NY/Woodlands) had 6 points for the Gators, who shot just 21.2% in the game.
Simmons saw four players finish in double-figures as the Sharks got out to a comfortable first half lead and cruised to the victory. Emily Thomas, 16 points, Liz O'Connor (Milton, MA), 15 points, and Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, NH), 10 points, all scored in double-figures to lead the Sharks starters, while Hannah May (Hamden, CT) had 15 points off the bench for Simmons. O'Conner also finished the game with 11 rebounds, as Simmons finished with a 56-43 advantage on the glass.
The Gators will now have to wait until next weekend before returning to GNAC play. The Gators will travel to New Haven, CT for an afternoon match-up with the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College (6-7, 1-3 GNAC). Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
