CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Pine Manor College will join the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and women's basketball teams across the nation when they 'Play 4Kay' as they host Saint Joseph's of Brooklyn on Friday, February 10, 2011 at Brunelli Court in Chestnut Hill, MA.
Pine Manor will host the second of 14 GNAC games from February 7-20, 2012 as part of the national Play 4Kay campaign in support of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The GNAC recently released the full schedule of Play 4Kay games, further information can be found at thegnac.com.
Formerly known as the WBCA Pink Zone, Play 4Kay is a national initiative which began in 2007 and continues today as 'a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awarness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.'
Proceeds collected during the game will be donated to the The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, the official charity of the initiative. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is named for legendary North Carolina State women's basketball head coach Coach Kay Yow, who passed away in 2009 after fighting breast cancer for over 20 years.
Coach Yow recorded 737 victories during her coaching career while also guiding the United States Women’s Basketball team to the gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In June of 2002, Coach Yow’s accomplishments earned her induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and on July 11, 2007, Coach Yow was presented with the inaugural Jimmy V. ESPY Award for Perseverance.
