LYNN, Mass. -- After taking a quick 16-4 lead out of the gate, Pine Manor never looked backed as it earned a commanding road win, 64-36, against Fisher College on Sunday December 12. The Gators were in control throughout the contest, picking up their third win of the season on day two of the Fisher College Holiday Hoops Classic in Lynn, MA.
"It was a great team effort," said head coach Alex Gould following the game. "We've got some injuries right now and we had some more people get banged up during the game, but everyone stepped up, everyone contributed. It's always good to grab a win, especially on the road, but to do it like this when so many people contribute makes it even better."
The Gators held Fisher to just 4 of 32 shooting in the first half, surrendering only 12 points and entering the locker room with a 15 point advantage, 27-12. Pine Manor would only increase their advantage in the second half as the Gators continued to overwhelm the Lady Falcons by continually attacking the basket on offense.
For the second time in as many days, junior Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge) recorded a double-double for Pine Manor, as she totaled a game-high 17 points to go along 14 rebounds. Sophomore Tia Nelson (Rockport, MA/Rockport) also recorded 13 points against Fisher following a 13 point afternoon against Maine-Fort Kent on Saturday.
For Pine Manor, Enjolee Phillips (right) (Hartford, CT/Weaver) also finished in double figures, as she recorded 15 points in the victory. "I thought she did a great job at the point today," said Gould of the senior guard. "We needed some people to step up today, and she answered the call."
While Pine Manor's starters did their part to fill the basket and limit Fisher on defense, the Gators also received strong contributions from the bench. Sophomore Aponi Washington (Brockton, MA/Brockton) poured in 9 points and collected 6 rebounds as she provided a strong post presence off the bench, while junior Jessica Gilmore (Dorchester, MA/English) added 8 points for the Gators, who poured in 37 points after the half as they stretched their lead to a 28 point advantage.
Pine Manor now heads home for semester break, but the Gators will return to action on Wednesday January 5, 2011 for a contest with Wheelock College at 4:30 p.m.. Pine Manor will then open up Great Northeast Athletic Conference play later that week against Rivier College on Saturday January 8, 2011 at 1:00pm.
