Gators best Sharks in 1-0 thriller

Pine Manor sneaks past Sharks, Emerson next

Newton Center, MA -- Courtney Wallace's line drive sac fly to deep center easily scored Patty Pabon from third after eight shutout innings from Jackie Martinez, giving the Gators a 1-0 win over Simmons in GNAC Tournament action Friday afternoon on the campus of Mount Ida College.
After popping out to end the seventh inning, Pabon (Bronx, NY/Townsend Harris) started the eighth on second base as per extra innings rules. Veronica Vozzolo (Bellmore, NY/JFK) bunted Pabon to third, bringing up the two-time NFCA All-Northeast selection, and Wallace's drive easily scored the Gators lead-off hitter to win it.
In the teams' first meeting this season - a 1-0, eight-inning Pine Manor win - starter Jackie Martinez hurled a two hit gem, striking out a career-high 13. She was nearly as dazzling Friday, throwing eight shutout innings of two-hit ball, fanning eight.
Martinez, Wallace, Michelle Myers and Kayla Nielsen all went 1-for-3, collecting the Gators only hits off Simmons starter Courtney Collrer.
Pine Manor advances to take on top-seed Emerson on Saturday.
