BOSTON – Pine Manor scored three in the top of the eighth inning and held the Sharks to one in the bottom of the inning Wednesday afternoon at Boston Common, beating Simmons 8-6 in the continuation of a game started on Friday, April 2.
With the international tiebreaker in effect in the top of the eighth, a Sharks error on Tia Nelson’s lead-off sacrifice bunt scored Kaylyn Delgado from second, putting the Gators on top 6-5.
Michelle Myers’ fourth triple of the year scored Nelson, who was safe on her sac bunt, and Myers (left) came around to score on a Michelle Campbell one-out single to right.
Leading 8-5 going to the bottom half of the inning, Pine Manor needed almost every run it just earned. In the same game in which her team, 12 days ago, squandered a 4-1 fifth-inning lead and then a seventh-inning lead, Nelson was again forced to work out of a bases-loaded jam. With one out and one run already in, Myers started a 4-3 double play that ended it, locking up the 4-3 win.
For the game, Campbell went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Courtney Wallace went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and two runs, and Nelson went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Myers’ triple moves her into second place in the GNAC.
After a nail-biting 4-3 win against St. Joseph (CT) yesterday, Nelson’s win is now her second in two days. The win marks the third time in the last two seasons Pine Manor has bested Simmons in extra innings.
Pine Manor returns to play on Friday at Suffolk at 3:30 p.m.
