New Haven, Conn. -- Pine Manor topped Albertus Magnus College, 69-67 on Saturday, January 22, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game that went down to the wire. With the win the Gators improve to 2-3 in GNAC play, while moving to 5-10 overall. Albertus drops to 6-9 (1-4 GNAC) following Saturday's matinee at "The Nest" in New Haven, CT.
The Gators were fueled by a tremendous game from Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge), as she finished with highs in both points and rebounds. Dumeran once again recorded a double-double for Pine Manor, filling up the box score with 25 points, 22 rebounds, to go along with six steals, four blocks and four assists as the junior forward helped to pace the Gators to their second conference win of the year. Dumeran was one of three Gators to finish in double figures, as sophomore Tia Nelson (Rockport, MA/Rockport) knocked down four three-pointers to finish with 16 points for the Gators.
This afternoon's game also saw the return of junior captain Paulette Wright to the Pine Manor line-up. Playing in her first game since a season opening loss to Curry, Wright also recorded a double-double for the Gators with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Albertus trailed Pine Manor 40-33 at the half, but the Lady Falcons would respond in the second, outscoring the Gators 34-29 to close the Pine Manor lead to 69-67 with 9.3 seconds remaining. However the Lady Falcons final attempt just wouldn't go down, allowing Pine Manor to hold for its second road win of the season. Albertus freshmen guard Lindsey Karle (Wallingford,CT/Lyman Hall) had a team-high 19 points for the Lady Falcons.
Following the game Pine Manor head coach Alex Gould was pleased with the road result for his team: "I though we played very well," said Gould following the Gators win. "We still have some things to work on but we are headed in the right direction."
Pine Manor will now look to Thursday, January 27, and a match-up against Emerson College (5-11, 3-1 GNAC). Tip-off for the game is set for 7:00 p.m at Pine Manor Gymnasium.
