CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshman Lauren Nesshover (Rytland, VT) and junior Katrina Ellis-Ferrara (Huletts Landing, NY) helped power visiting Green Mountain College Women’s Soccer to a commanding 7-0 victory over host Pine Manor College on Sunday afternoon at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, MA. With their second win of the weekend, the Eagles improve to 3-3-0 overall, while Pine Manor drops to 2-3-0 on the season.
Ellis-Ferrara started off the scoring for the Eagles, delivering a shot from the top of the penalty area past PMC goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, IL) to give Green Mountain the lead three minutes into the game. Just three minutes later, Ellis-Ferrara got her second goal on a one-time deflection as sophomore Martha Howe (Sunapee, NH) found the junior forward alone in front with a cross.
For the Gators, Kopystynsky was busy early and often. Pine Manor’s senior net minder made 10 saves on the afternoon as Green Mountain put 17 shots on target while taking 36 in total. The Gators did not attempt a shot on the Green Mountain net as Amber Heath (Windsor, VT) and Kim Simonetti (Salem, MA) combined to record the shutout.
With the Eagles leading 2-0, Nesshoever recorded her first goal of the day thanks to a dazzling display of individual skill. Nesshoever gained possession near midfield and calmly navigated her way through the Pine Manor defense before sliding the ball past Kopystynsky and into the net. Nesshoever would add one more before the half when she showed the same patience and poise, slotting a through ball from Elizabth Quinn (Aiken, SC) to the left of Kopystynsky for the 4-0 lead at 32:33 of the first.
In the second half, a pair of quick strikes stretched the Eagle lead to 6-0. Maegan Laymon (Ilion, NY) curled in a shot from the top of the penalty area, to make it 5-0, before Nesshoever completed the hat trick just second later when the Eagles took advantage of a Pine Manor error at midfield that quickly allowed Howe to deliver a cross, this time to Nesshoever, who again found the back of the net.
Brianna Alimonti (Revere, MA) finished off the scoring for the Eagles, beating Kopystynsky on a feed from Emily Christensen (Rangeley, ME) to make the score 7-0.
Pine Manor will be back in action next weekend when they complete their season series with Fisher College at 2:00 PM Sunday in Medford, MA. Green Mountain will be in action next Saturday when they travel to Johnson St.
