In the Ottoman Garden by Helga Butzer Felleisen

February 6 – March 21, 2013

Artist’s Statement: A child of immigrants, Helga Butzer Felleisen has always lived between cultures. To her, identity represents a tension between wanting roots and the freedom of floating. It is not surprising that her work centers on the relationship between identity and memory. Similarly, Helga’s drawings of hand-cut vellum cross the boundaries of drawing, sculpture and design. Minimalistic, the cut lines reference the natural world. Interjections of pattern or recognizable imagery anchor them in culture. As site-specific installations, the drawings' ever-changing projections onto their context tell stories. Felleisen holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Classical Civilizations and Classical Archaeology. More recently she earned a Diploma and Fifth Year Certificate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Helga shows her work extensively.www.helgafelleisen.com
