
The Pine Manor College Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the selection of Ellen S. Hurwitz, Ph.D., as PMC's Interim President. Dr. Hurwitz will begin her work on November 5th 2012. We are excited that she is joining the Pine Manor community and we welcome her.
With 40 years of higher education experience, Dr. Hurwitz is well equipped to lead Pine Manor. In addition to teaching history and interdisciplinary studies at Wesleyan University and Lafayette College, she chaired Lafayette’s History Department, served as Associate Dean of Faculty and more recently as a member of its Board of Trustees.
Dr. Hurwitz served as Provost and Dean of Faculty at Illinois Wesleyan University and as President of Albright College, New England College and, most recently, at American University of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. She was also chair of the Columbia University Seminar on Slavic History and Culture and a visiting fellow at Harvard’s Ukrainian Research Center. She has extensive experience in planning, fundraising, coaching, team building, accreditation and curriculum development.
Ellen received her B.A. from Smith College and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. She also studied at Moscow State University and at the Institute for Educational Management and New Presidents Program at Harvard University.
We are confident that Ellen’s experience, enthusiasm, leadership abilities and understanding of Pine Manor’s mission will serve the college well.
