WEST HARTFORD, CT - Two second half goals lifted the Blue Jays over Pine Manor Saturday afternoon, as the Gators dropped a ninth straight GNAC contest.
Goalkeeper Margaret Roberts kept the Gators in the game through the first half. Starting at keeper for the second time in her career and second time in as many games, Roberts stopped all four St. Joseph shots on goal, shutting the fourth-place Jays out on all eight corner kick attempts through halftime.
It was a corner kick, though, that allowed the St. Joseph offense to strike first at 63:46, when Stacey Rutlidge scored on a Paige Brigilia kick. With her team leading 1-0, Brigilia got a goal of her own, beating Roberts from 12 yards away on the right wing with just over 9:00 remaining.
While Roberts totaled seven saves and kept her club withing striking distance, the Gators offense struggled in her support. Pine Manor was outshot 26-1, including 13-0 in the second. The Jays held a 15-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The loss drops Pine Manor to 3-9-1 (0-9 GNAC), while St. Joseph improves to 9-5-2 (6-3-1 GNAC).
Pine Manor returns to the field on Tuesday for a 3:30 tilt at Mount Ida.
