West Hartford, CT-- Despite a 12 save performance from sophomore netminder Colleen Tenezca (South Meriden/Platt), Pine Manor lacrosse dropped a close 4-1 decision to St. Joseph College (CT) on Wednesday April 6, 2011. Tenezca made 10 of her 12 stops in the first half as the Gators were outshot by St. Jospeh 24-8 in the game.
The Gators held the Blue Jays scoreless for much of the first half before St. Joseph Elizabeth Strange (South Windsor, CT) struck 18 minutes into the opening frame. The Blue Jays would then add two more as Michelle Wright (Wallingford, CT) and Casey James (Windsor, CT) would record tallies less than a minute apart as Wright struck with just over 9 minutes remaning and James followed just 48 seconds later.
Pine Manor freshman Candice Fitzpatrick (Dorchester, MA/Elizabeth Seton Academy) would put the Gators on the board with just over three minutes to play in the first, scoring her first collegiate tally to pull PMC to within two goals at 3-1. However, Pine Manor was unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game, ultimately losing 4-1.
After the game, Gator head coach Erica Adams was quick to praise the play of her goalkeeper: "Colleen had a great game, she made some big saves and did everything she could to keep us in the game," said Adams.
The Gators will return to action this Saturday when they host Thomas College (ME) at 1:00 p.m. at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, MA.
